A logo is a usually a graph design to
represent your company. It can be anything from the
company’s initials to a series of pictures. A logo is part
of the branding of your company. It should appear on
your business card, letterhead and envelopes.
Generally, a logo is professionally designed. Let us
know if you want your logo designed as we have access
to a graphic artist who can make several different
versions from which to choose. Samples below..
Pictures can be photos that you take of
your business, your trucks, your employees, your
building, examples of your work, your machines,
anything that deals with how your company runs.
Pictures can also be purchased from websites such as
Dreamtime and IstockPhoto.com. Pictures on a
website need to have a license. Samples below...
A website is a group if
interconnected pages which is
devoted to one theme. A website could be
about your company, a service you offer, or
product(s) you sell. A navigation scheme is
provided at the top or side of a site to help the
reader get from page to page.
The website is stored on a host computer that
connected to the internet 100% of the time. The
host name provides a permanent address in the
form of a series of numbers like 74.125.25.105.
If you type in this number in your address bar,
you will get Google.com. Since it is easier to
remember www.google.com then the above
series of numbers, a lookup table for each
address is spread around the world. When your
purchase the domain you will assign the address
to point to your hosting account...
Google’s address is 74, 125,25,105
SEO or Search Engine
Optimization describes the
processes that can be done behind the scenes to
help get your website recognized and listed on
the home page of Google or other search engine.
You may have heard of keywords. Adding
keywords that many people use when searching
for your product gives your page a higher ranking
and therefore lists your page closer to the top.
SEO is a science that often needs a professional
in order to help your pages rank well. Plan to
set aside enough money to have your pages
analyzed by a professional. It is also a good idea
to create your keywords before you write your
text so that you can incorporate the keywords
within the text. A measure using the keywords in
your text is known as
keyword density and is
thought to help your
pages rank well.
Graphics are words and drawings made to
enhance the meaning of a concept on your
website. A graphic can be like the picture
to the left showing relationships. Your logo is probably a
graphic. Graphics are usually created with some graphic
design program like Photoshop or Logo Designer, etc.
Photoshop has a steep learning curve and generally is used
by experienced professionals. Other programs like Logo
Designer are easier most people to learn themselves. The
two things that take the most time in website design are
Graphics and locating pictures.
Layout refers to the design of the webpage.
If you we a steel maker you would want a
different look and feel than a website about knitting wool. This
is where your website designer can make suggestions that are
appropriate for your business. Colors usually can be adjusted
accordingly. While Basic Web Designer uses predesigned sites
that can be modified for your need, they can design sites from
scratch. Check out our Templates and sample site pages.
Social media refers to all the ways to
communicate about your products and
services. Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, Google+ and LinkedIn
are just a few that need managing. You can make a business
page on Facebook that is treated differently than a Personal
Profile page. You can run campaigns on Facebook to get other
users to learn about your products and services. We have a
new Social Media Consultant we are using for Basic Web
Designer. Check our our Facebook Presence at
www.facebook.com/basicwebdesigner. You should plan
part of your budget for advertising through Social Media.
A list of words that is invisibly
stored on your website helps
Google and other search engines find you site. Once you have
your keywords selected you can start writing your text for your
web pages. Start with your homepage. I like to think of the
homepage as a table of contents for the rest of the site. You
can introduce your site, tell its goal, and describe the functions
of the site and some of the benefits in using your company or
your products. Remember it’s just an overview. You want
people to expore the site.
You can look at the sample sites that I have created and see
the variety of ways people approach the homepage. Make
sure you include your keywords in your text. If we have an
agreement in place, you can send us your text. Our staff writer
will work with you in case it needs more development.

A special page that social media links to that
provides an opportunity for you to get email
addresses of clients in trade for some free
information that the client is interested in. It might
be a 10 minute conference call or a ebook that you
have written with relevant information. If the
person signs up for in order to trade, their email
address is automatically added to your mailing list
if you use such a program. One such program
would be constant contact.
